I recently forced, okay convinced my husband that a 7 day cleanse was a good thing. The truth was…it was! We were feeling our too tight pants and my acid reflux was acting up again. We ended up yes, dropping a few pounds that stayed off! I also ended up with clearer skin, healthier shiny hair and a more relaxed nervous system. Yes…all from a cleanse and the easiest part was the juicing.
A green juice is a body tonic. It supports our vital organs, our liver, kidneys and digestive systems. Our liver is always working overtime to clean our blood. Busy, stress filled days add strain to body and our liver. Add processed foods, hormones, pesticides and herbicides and our liver needs support. Juicing greens is the break your liver needs.
Liver support is especially important for compromised immune systems or auto-immune thyroid sufferers.
It doesn’t matter, if you use a green juice to start your day, add it to a spring cleanse, or drink one as an afternoon snack. The only rule you need to follow is to make sure you like what you make and always use organic as much as possible
I shared a green juice in my recent facebook live and have the simple recipe below. It’s a true spring cleanse type, especially if you remove the grapefruit juice. The added spring dandelion helps our body shift from the cold dry winter air to the more moist sun filled April & May spring weather! When we eat by the seasons our body becomes stronger and more resilient.
Always use a variety of greens, and use the freshest organic produce. Rotating the types of greens will ensure you get the vital mix of vitamins and minerals that the body needs. Switch it up add, carrots, beets, tomatoes, fresh herbs, sauerkraut (yes fermented cabbage), apples, lemon juice…you get the idea.
For thyroid support I don’t juice kale or cabbage. These are amazing vegetables, just not for the thyroid in their raw form or as juice.
- 6+ leaves romaine lettuce
- 1/2 – 1 cucumber
- 1″ piece of ginger
- 6 fresh dandelion leaves
- 1/3 cup fresh cilantro
Optional: A 1/4 cup of a fresh fruit juice like fresh squeezed lemon, grapefruit or orange or add an apple to your juicer.
** Don’t add fruit with the rind still on…that’s way too bitter!
